The Municipality of Limón decided not to celebrate the traditional carnivals for the second year in a row due to losses of money in the previous years.
Vice president of the City Council of the province Jorge Calvo said that they made the decision because the city has not recovered yet from the loss of more than 10 million colones as consequence of the carnivals of 2014. In addition, he pointed out that the recent crime wave has nothing to do with the cancellation of the festivities.
The carnival leaves no profit and the large beverage companies are the ones that take the money. (…) a “Party” was done with the city’s financial resources, and that had to be stopped,”
declared Calvo.
He added that the municipality already filed a complaint but nothing has happened.
