The amendment to the Liquor Act that lawmakers approved on the first reading on May, 9th does not show unconstitutionality, according to a ruling by the Fourth Chamber last Friday.
The initiative amends Article 10 of the Law for Regulating and Marketing alcoholic beverages, so that the cost of municipal licenses for liquor sales is proportionate to the size of the business and its income for liquor sales in the past year.
According to legislator Juan Marín, “There are businesses paying ¢800 thousand per quarter. Now, they could spend just ¢100 thousand or less, depending on the business location, infrastructure, number of employees and total income.”
