The owners of more than 2.3 million vehicles will pay on average 7.76% less for the property tax on vehicles in the collection for 2019. This was announced by the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday night. The entity estimates a total collection of ¢175 billion with this tax.
Citizens may find out the tax value of the vehicle and the property tax (not the circulation permit), on the Treasury’s website www.hacienda.go.cr in the most used Services section.
On the site, by simply typing in the license plate number, the interested party can obtain the information. They can also request a revision of the tax value of the vehicle.
Executive Decree No. 41356-H, which includes the list of all vehicles, aircraft and vessels with their updated fiscal value, was published in La Gaceta on October 31st.
The General Director of Taxation, Carlos Vargas, explained that to calculate the tax, the Tax Administration applies a valuation index, based on a formula established in the Law, where three factors intervene:
– Legal depreciation of the vehicle
– Accumulated inflation in the last year
– Change in the tax burden applied to vehicles
