Sylvie Durán, minister of Culture, announced that Marfil musical group received the Emilia Prieto 2016 award, for its contribution to Costa Rican culture.
Marfil represents cultural diversity through its expression of Afro-Caribbean sonority, by interpreting traditional sounds from Limón and by honoring their roots,
declared the minister when announcing the award.
Marfil is widely recognized for themes such as “Represento” and “Sacaboom”, as well as for having their own songs and some arrangements .
In addition to being known for their important musical path, they also stand out for using some elements of the Costa Rican culture for their compositions.
This award was announced along with the Magón Award, which was given to doctor Juan Jaramillo Antillón.
