MEP has received thousands of complaints against educators who used strike to go on vacation

The beaches of the country would have been one of the most desired destinations for the educators who were on strike, since they chose them to go for a walk during the 86 days of protests against the Fiscal Plan.

The Minister of Education (MEP), Edgar Mora, confirmed having received thousands of complaints from parents and citizens who assure the educational staff took advantage of the strike to go on vacation to the beaches and mountains of the country.

Mora insisted that this type of social movements are not “mere absenteeism”. Establishing sanctions in these cases is almost impossible, but the “censorship” for these public officials is moral and social.

Mora said they know that on strike days many educators arrived at the recreation center of the College of Teachers and Graduates (Colypro) and that it is possible there are records of this, but warns that due to frictions with that school, it is unlikely that they will provide such information, or that it establishes any disciplinary sanctions.

The MEP announced that it had canceled an agreement with Colypro due to its position in times of strike. This joint work agreement had been signed a few years ago to support and benefit teachers and consisted of the MEP providing permits to its staff to attend training and workshops organized by the College.
