Last year, it was informed that officials from the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) benefited from the National Scholarship Fund (FONABE) aid despite not meeting the requirements.
It was reported that some of them would have lied about their income in order to obtain scholarships for their children. The number of irregular cases was abot 640.
Yaxinia Díaz, director of Human Resources at the MEP, explained that the institution opened 70 disciplinary files and out of them, 40 are in process and 30 have already been resolved with sanctions. Most of the officials got their salaries suspended for 15 days.
Díaz also informed that once authorities knew about the situation, they suspended these people’s scholarships. In addition, the Human Resources Department of the MEP recommended the dismissal of a teacher, because the offene was “serious”, but it did not take place due to an instruction from the Teaching Career Court.
In order to recover the money, the Ministry’s Human Resources Department was advising FONABE to determine how it can be collected.
