MEP reports minimum fire damage in Desamparados

The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) reported that Wednesday’s fire in Desamparados did not affect nearby schools and colleges.

Orlando de la O, director of MEP’s Regional Management and Development, indicated that all schools are operating normally.
However, at the El Porvenir school, the one closest to the site where the incident occurred, 7 out of 10 students were absent, perhaps because many places had no power.

The night of Wednesday, a few minutes before 7:00 p.m., a transformer exploded inside the substation of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) located in El Porvenir de Desamparados.

From that time until the wee hours of the morning workers and rescue corps worked on the scene to control the emergency. The authorities do not report injured people, although they did assist neighbors with nervous breakdowns.
