More than 10,000 micro-entrepreneurs employers account for 43% of the total debt with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS).
According to Luis Diego Calderón, director of collections of the CCSS, only this year they have:
-22 thousand lawsuit claims in process.
-Almost 5,000 criminal charges for improper retention in the payment of fees.
-Nearly 4,000 business closures for delinquency.
According to the data, the 10 biggest debtors from the group of employers with five or fewer workers have a debt that reaches ¢ 1,912 million.
The economic activities that report the biggest debts are related to trade, hotel and real estate services.
-Commerce: ¢ 5.635 billion
-Real Estate and Business: ¢ 4,914 million
– Hotels and restaurants: ¢ 2,372 million
Calderón called on those delinquent employers to pay their outstanding debts or look for a payment agreement.
