On Sunday, officers from the Border Police of the Ministry of Public Security seized a millionaire shipment of milled medicinal plants transported by three men in the canton of Los Chiles, border with Nicaragua.
These natural products were introduced in the country without having permits issued by Customs, Health or Agriculture and Livestock, as established by Costa Rican legislation.
The apprehended suspects are Nicaraguans nationals but only one, named Sánchez, was responsible for the cargo. Their immigration status is irregular, according to authorities.
The load of powdered plants was valued at almost two million colones.
In another operation in Los Chiles, agents of the Border Police rescued a parakeet that a man named Lopez had hidden in the glove compartment of his car. The bird had its wings cut off.
It is worth mentioning that the parakeet would have died, possibly drowned, if he had not been rescued.
For now, the parakeet will be taken care of and handed over to experts for later release, once its feathers grow back.
Border Police also arrested a Nicaraguan named Zapata, 18, with a bicycle stolen shortly before in that border community.
