A week after the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) confirmed 115 police officers’ dismissals due to their connections in serious allegations, minister Gustavo Mata said he wants to implement the polygraph to recruit staff.
This test, popularly known as the lie detector, is currently applied in other law enforcement agencies around the world.
How does this test work? The aspirants place sensors on a finger, forearm, thorax and glutes, which are connected by wires to the apparatus. This allows to recognize muscle and blood pressure when a person answers questions.
If a postulant lies, the polygraph would detect it due to body reactions. It would be different from the one recorded when a person tells the truth.
Mata explained that some tests have already been done within the National Coast Guard Service (SNG).
In addition, he stated that a consultation was extended to the Ministry of Labor in order to clear legal doubts on the matter.
