Alejandra Mora, minister of the Status of Women and Executive President of the National Institute of Women (INAMU), insists on the need to reform bill 20.001 to guarantee equal opportunities in positions of political designation.
Mora said that since the proportionality of women’s political participation in electoral processes has been applied, inclusion has increased.
In 1994, when it was applied for the first time, governing females went from 71 to 193 in 1998, and in 2002, they increased to 232,
said Mora.
She highlighted that a natural evolution of the political participation of women cannot be expected, because the powers are anchored in a masculine world: men are recognized in power.
The minister emphasized that it is necessary to start having a representation in the Governing Council, in the boards of directors, in the presidency of the autonomous institutions.
With more than 100 motions as background, it aims to eliminate the basic text, which consists of guaranteeing the appointment of 50%t women in the public positions of government ministers, vice-ministers, boards of directors, executive presidencies and decentralized institutions, because according to INAMU authorities, legislators say that this cannot be a Presidency’s right and they insist that women should be designated by their qualities.
The Minister insisted that there are still stereotypes.
