One of the Government’s goals was to create 53 thousand new jobs in the second quarter. However, last year 35,848 new jobs were created, 20 thousand less than expected.
For Minister of Planning, Olga Sánchez, this is proof that it will be difficult to meet the second national goal of creating 217 thousand jobs between 2015 and 2018.
However, President Luis Guillermo Solís is more optimistic.
This administration ends one minute past midnight on May 8th 2018. These figures are just preliminary calculations,”
commented the President.
Sánchez explained that the Government has encountered difficulties in achieving this goal, due to the international behavior of the market. In addition, there are structural problems, including that the output profile of professionals does not match with what companies need.
Despite this, the Executive celebrates that, although the goal was not met, 2016 had 15 thousand jobs more than 2015.
The goal of job creation is one of the 303 goals of this administration, 22 of which were “partially fulfilled” in 2016.
