The public employment reforms contained in the fiscal plan will not harm current officials, according to Labor Minister, Steven Núñez. The Minister made this statement in a hearing before the legislators that make up the special commission to study the bill to strengthen public finances.
The provisions of this law shall not be applied to the detriment of officials who are providing their services for public administration upon its entry into force. This means that neither the salaries nor other working conditions of the current state officials will be affected,”
said Núñez.
He also indicated that the project clearly establishes that the total monthly remuneration of any public official may exceed the equivalent of 20 basic salaries (¢ 5.3 million).
The leader defended the initiative as part of efforts to clean up public finances. Núñez talked about the topics of annuities, exclusive dedication and prohibition, and eradication of unemployment. He stressed that, according to jurisprudence of the Constitutional Chamber, the Ministry of Labor and any other entity is bound to comply with a maximum of 12 years.
Núñez reiterated that the government of President Carlos Alvarado will propose that the new officials work under the single-salary system.
