Ministers of Foreign Affairs want a meeting to review the Cuban Adjustment Act

Costa Rica and 8 Latin American countries proposed a high-level meeting to review the American policy that promotes illegal immigration of Cuban citizens to US territory.

Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Guillaume Long informed that foreign ministers from Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru delivered a missive to Secretary of State John Kerry, in which they expressed their concern about the Cuban Adjustment Act, that has privileged Cubans who reach America with residence and work permits since 1966.

These people, in extreme vulnerability, are victims of crime syndicates dedicated to human trafficking, sexual exploitation and collective assaults. This situation has generated a crisis that is affecting our countries,

explained the officials.

The foreign ministers considered that the revision of the Dry Feet, Wet Feet Cuban Adjustment Act would be a first step to stop the worsening of this complex situation and it would part of a final solution to guarantee an orderly and regular migration in the region.
