Ministry of Health shows important decrease in dengue cases

During 2018, the Ministry of Health registered 555 cases of people with dengue. This means 799 fewer cases than the same date last year.

Other diseases also transmitted by vectors, such as zika and chikungunya also show a decrease compared to last year. To date, there are 163 cases of zika, whereas in 2017 there were 783. As for chikungunya, there are 37 cases so far, and last year there were 143.

Health authorities have already eliminated more than 863,000 mosquito breeding grounds.

The cantons with the highest incidence of dengue are:

Matina
Guácimo
Siquirres
Pococí
Parrita
Quepos
Montes de Oro
Garabito
Esparza

Chikungunya has a higher incidence in:
Carillo
Matina
Guatuso
Sarapiquí
Acosta
Garabito
Downtown Limón
Santa Cruz

In addition to this, eight cases of malaria are reported, four of which are imported.

The authorities remind the population of the importance of eliminating possible breeding sites, such as disused tires, tanks and buckets, jars, black plastic covers, drinking bowls, and plant pots.
