MOPT warns about new scam to banks and businesses

A new scam that uses the names of the officials of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation has become the new criminal trend. Therefore, officials are warning business and financial institutions to be aware of the situation.

The altered documents are identity cards, salary records with higher incomes than those earned by officials, and fake signatures with the purpose of allowing merchants or financial entities to authorize the purchase of goods or grant large amounts of loans.

So far, one official of the Human Resources Management Department of the MOPT has been directly affected. Authorities don’t ruled out that criminals are seeking to defraud more businesses or financial institutions using ID cards and altered documents where they include MOPT logos.

The Ministry of Public Works, in addition to supporting the complaint, decided to conduct an internal investigation and provide the documentation required in the judicial investigations.
