A human trafficker, who used to take Costa Ricans to the United States, was arrested due to the sinking of 3 Costa Ricans in Bahamas, which occurred in April 2015. Arturo Garbanzo and Edith Alfaro were planning to reach Florida before traveling to Pennsylvania, where their two daughters were waiting for them.
On November 16th, almost a year and a half later, the Immigration Police and the Public Ministry arrested trafficker Barboza Fallas, also known as “Coyote Chino”, who took the Costa Ricans out of the country. Along with the couple, there was a person who survived the sinking and was deported by US authorities.
We found a bill that indicated that Barboza received $ 5,000 from Garbanzo in the quality of flight tickets. The bill is dated March 2015, one month before their disappearance,
confirmed Jorge Chavarría, Attorney General of the Republic.
Barboza started offering the Bahamas route because the passage through Mexico was complicated. There are more people involved but they are foreigners located in the Bahamas, Cuba and Mexico.
