More than 400 people asked for a maintenance allowance in 2016

463 people were studied in 2016 after they applied for a maintenance allowance for inability to work or because they suffer from illnesses such as depression, diabetes, hypertension, hernias and cataracts.

This is shown by the statistics from the Labor Medicine Unit of the Judiciary, an entity that evaluates children and adults every day.

According to Carlos Paniagua, in almost 99% of cases, authorities have detected some degree of disability in people, so the results of medical tests are shared with the judges so they can decide how to proceed with the pension or inability to work.

On average, 60% of the studied people are men, while 40% are women. In 2015, 412 people were assessed.

Two people work for this unit, but it is expected that due to the labor reform, the number of processes increase considerably.
