What does the mustache have to do with prostate cancer? At first glance, nothing. Hoever, a global movement aims to save millions of lives making visible a problem that many ignore: shame to undergo a prostate exam.
The incidence is high: in Costa Rica, 1,005 new cases are diagnosed every year, which places this condition as the second most deadly cancer in men, exceeded only by stomach cancer.
Movember was born by putting together “mustache” and “November”. The campaign encourages men to grow mustaches during the month of November to remind people the importance of early detection of prostate and testicular cancer.
Growing a mustache does not cure anything, but it’s a good way to visualize the situation. We let ourselves grow a mustache in solidarity for those men who are at risk age and want to leave the taboos aside and get tested,
explained Carlos Araya, who has spent six years leading the campaign in Costa Rica.
Movember organizes outdoor activities, lectures and theater plays for companies.
Do not think twice! Movember is the perfect excuse to keep your mustache for a month and at the same time you will help a good cause.
