According to Firefighters, Storm Nate caused 500% more emergencies than Hurricane Otto in November 2016.
According to the institution, the number of emergencies in the last five days due to the tropical storm is equivalent to 50% of the total number of incidents of the same nature, handled in the entire 2016.
These include tree falls, floods, landslides, among others.
• Rescuing and evacuating 1,545 people
• 143 animals were also rescued
• There were 434 obstacle clearances
• 54 activations of Municipal Committees of Emergencies
Almost 800 firefighters participated in all the work these days, including permanent firefighters, as well as volunteer, technical and administrative personnel.
On Saturday, president Luis Guillermo Solis said that the impact of the storm was equal or greater than Hurricane Otto. He had to declare an emergency state for 76 cantons this time, whereas last year only 30 cantons received this category. According to the president, this was the greatest emergency registered in the history of Costa Rica.
