Patricia Mora, the new Minister of the Status of Women, and Carlos Alvarado, president-elect, will declare a national emergency due to the wave of violence against women registered in the country.
There is a commitment from Mr. Carlos Alvarado to decree a national emergency due to the wave of femicides, the wave of increasing sexist violence against women,”
said Mora, when asked about the first action she will take when she takes her position as minister on May 8th.
Mora said that after leaving the Legislative Assembly and being part of the new cabinet, she will defend the rights of all women in the country, but she will focus on the eradication of any type of violence.
Annually, thousands of women request protection measures and dozens call for help every day. In addition, according to data from the Ministry of Health, women suffer most from all types of violence compared to men: patrimonial, sexual, psychological and physical.
