Neighbors and authorities on alert due to volcanic activity at Rincón de la Vieja

On Monday, after the constant activity of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano in Guanacaste, the president of the National Emergency Commission (CNE) and a technical team traveled to the area to review the emergency plan together with the representatives of the Municipal Committees of Emergencies (CME) and work in the preparation of the communities.

This Sunday an eruption occurred at 1:26 am, whose most important effect was the descent of lahars (mud currents) down the Pénjamo and Azufrada rivers.

During the visit of the authorities, an inspection was conducted to know the state of the streams and together with the mayor of Upala, Juan Bosco Acevedo, and community representatives, the communication, coordination and organization needs for the plan were determined for immediate action, primarily with the communities of Gavilán and Buenos Aires.

On Monday afternoon, they met in Buenos Aires of Upala with municipal representatives, the livestock committee, the association of the community and the development of Buenos Aires, representatives of the community of Gavilán, and the district of Dos Ríos, as well as other government institutions, with the objective of informing about the current condition of the volcano and preparing the community.

According to Alexander Solís, president of the CNE, as part of the immediate actions, the communication network between the communities will be re-established through the maintenance, repair, and installation of new equipment.
