New flights create job opportunities

Avianca announced the opening of new direct flights to Mexico City and San Pedro Sula from June 1st.

The accelerated growth of the airline in the country and the high demand for flights has allowed the creation of new jobs for Costa Ricans. Only last year the figure exceeded 250 new positions and so far this year there are about 100 more.

In total, the company has 1,164 Costa Rican employees. Of these, 124 are pilots and 199 are cabin crew, in addition to various collaborators in the administrative sector and communication department, among others. And although many are Costa Rican, several of them operate outside of Costa Rica in countries like Colombia.

According to Pablo Gómes, Avianca Commercial Manager for Costa Rica, Avianca’s long history and excellent service in the region have been key factors in making this favorable scenario possible.

These new direct routes will strengthen tourism and commercial relations between the different destinations, also allowing connection options for passengers from other important markets in the region,”

said Gómes.

Avianca operates a total of 98 weekly flights from Costa Rica. With these two new destinations, the company will add 9 direct routes, including Bogotá, Guatemala City, Panama City, Lima, Managua, San Salvador and Tegucigalpa, as well as flights to Toronto, Cancun, Santiago de Chile and Los Angeles.
