The National Bank found out that scammers are using a series of apps to mask their telephone numbers, so that clients believe they are receiving an official call from the bank. Then, they are asked to provide credit card numbers, bank account numbers and other data.
Therefore, the banking institution is warning the population that, regardless of the number they see on their phone screens, they must never provide bank account numbers or passwords, because it is not the bank, but unscrupulous people who use this information to commit crimes.
Both the National Bank and the Central Bank of Costa Rica have repeatedly reported they are not requesting any data to customers and that it is false they must provide account numbers to receive new IBAN account numbers.
