Costa Rica was not prepared for an African and Caribbean mass migration. President of the Republic Luis Guillermo Solís admitted it. As consequence, he called for the creation of a National Migration Policy in order to have resources to cope with the situation that is taking place in the Southern Border. Within 60 days, it should be ready.
According to recent reports, about 150 migrants arrive in the country every day and so far there are 2,000 people.
With this new migration policy, it is planned to provide resources to address this issue instead of using the budget of the National Emergency Commission or other institutions.
It would be irresponsible not to have a national policy for migrants. It would be very serious that the next administration faces this phenomenon without the legal, institutional and financial resources,
declared the President of the Republic .
In recent days, Cubans who enter Costa Rica from Panama have increased. Panamanian president Juan Carlos Varela stated that he would try to stop the islanders so that, they do not reach domestic territory.
