The new President of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) said goodbye to the Embassy of Costa Rica in Washington, DC, where he has been working for the last four years; while the current Executive President of the CCSS, Fernando Llorca, will leave that position to take the same Embassy.
Román Macaya will take over as head of the CCSS in August, after he was appointed by President Carlos Alvarado. However, he will take office later because he was an Ambassador to the United States.
As quickly as the adventure of taking office at the Costa Rican Embassy in Washington, DC began, it ended last night, when we returned (the whole family) back to our country. They were four incredible years, full of meetings, projects, achievements, and some great challenges that had to be addressed. It was also a great family experience, where we all had to adapt to the new environment. Now we return to Costa Rica with great enthusiasm and happy to meet with family and friends again,”
said Macaya.
According to him, concrete results were achieved in all the thematic areas of the Embassy’s agenda: science, health, education, security, migration, foreign direct investment, trade, human rights, culture, conservation and the environment, energy, tourism, and protocol issues.
Macaya explained that the last weeks were loaded with farewells from universities, friends of the diplomatic corps, the State Department, and others.
He will arrive to the CCSS next month where they will receive a series of pending issues, including decisions related to the sustainability of the Disability, Old Age and Death (IVM) regime.
