The Nicaraguan government announced on Wednesday that members of the special group of the Organization of American States (OAS) created to address the political crisis affecting the countries four months ago are not welcomed in its territory.
They are not welcomed to our country; therefore, they will not be received in our homeland,”
read Foreign Minister Denis Moncada during a support act for the government.
The government said
the presence of the interventionist commission in the country is unacceptable,”
referring to a group of 12 countries created on August 2nd, claiming it interferes sovereign security and national dignity.
The group created by the Permanent Council of the OAS by a resolution endorsed by 20 votes in favor, four against, and eight abstentions, was integrated a week later by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, United States, Guyana, Mexico, Panama, and Peru.
The mission of the group is to contribute to the search for solutions to the political crisis triggered by anti-government protests since April 18th that have led to a demand for the departure of President Daniel Ortega, 72, who has been in office for 11 years.
The violence that surrounds the country leaves more than 300 dead, 2,000 wounded, and dozens of arrested people and missing victims, as well as the forced migration of thousands of people to other countries.
