Nicoya will march this Wednesday

About a thousand people from Nicoya will march this Wednesday through the main roads of the canton to get the attention of President Carlos Alvarado and the Executive Power on the most pressing needs.

“The March of the Proposal” was convened by the Coordinator of Communities for National Unity Mobilization, which brings together about 126 organizations in the canton. The participants want to give the chief executive a list of 19 requests, emphasizing an investment plan to pave the national routes of the province, because according to them, nearly 76% of these routes only have ballast.

One of the most needed routes in this canton is the well-known “Ruta de la Leche,” which is route 160 that connects the community of Río Seco with Nosara, necessary for the transfer of products.

The population also wants a detailed explanation on the distribution of the water generated by the projects developed by the government, especially the Río Piedras-Paacume plan, an 850-hectare project that will provide water for human consumption as well as water for irrigation and generate electricity.

On the other hand, the document will request President Alvarado that the Executive Power convene in Congress -during the period of extraordinary sessions in August- a bill to give legal security on its lands to the inhabitants of the coastal areas, since in the last years the legislators have only approved moratoria.

The peaceful demonstration, according to the spokesman Wilmart Matarrita, will leave at 8:30 am from the hospital in Nicoya. The idea is being able to give the president the document and talk with him at the Coopealianza facilities, or after the Municipal Council in the park of Nicoya.
