Nine cantons have environmentally friendly lights

Nine cantons have public lighting that is friendly to the environment. The placement of 11,037 lamps with LED street lighting technology allows the residents of Mora, Acosta, Aserrí, Desamparados, Cartago, El Guarco, Dota, Tarrazú and León Cortés to enjoy better lighting in roads, neighborhoods and parks.

These bulbs favor the protection of the environment and reduce energy consumption by up to 50%. Additionally, they contribute to the safety of citizens, among other benefits.

This transformation with a positive impact on nine cantons of San José and Cartago, coupled with the promotion of renewable energy production through the Los Santos Wind Farm and water protection efforts in 24 communities, made it possible for the Cooperative Coopesantos to obtain the Carbon Neutral certification, granted by the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE).

Within the organization, measures were also implemented to reduce the consumption of water, electricity, and paper, as well as an adequate management of solid waste. To achieve greater efficiency in the use of fuel from the vehicle fleet, drivers were trained, the use of biodiesel was incorporated, and a transport office was created.

Also, the recent placement of 1200 solar panels on the administrative offices of the Cooperative located in Los Santos, Conejo River, Acosta, and Guayabo de Mora was completed, which allows it to be supplied with its own 100% renewable energy.
