The nets to prevent suicides on the bridge over Virilla River, on Route 32, between San José and Limón, are already 100% installed. The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) confirmed on Wednesday that the devices are already in operation after almost one month of intensive work.
The structures seek to reduce the possibility of suicides on the bridge popularly known as the Saprissa bridge (due to its proximity to the football stadium).
The instalation of the structures began on September 3rd, with an investment of nearly ₡40 million. The barriers are made of galvanized steel, with a height of 2.85 meters and an inclination of 45 degrees. The structures are designed in such a way that people cannot climb.
