Last Saturday the country experienced what is considered the most xenophobic expression of the last years.
Around 500 people participated in this unfortunate event at Parque La Merced, carrying posters that caused a tense atmosphere and disturbances and required the presence of more than 30 policemen. The demonstration was active on the site for several hours, the protesters even sang the national anthem.
This Tuesday the presence of Nicaraguan vendors and citizens in La Merced Park was almost non-existent. However, CRHoy spent time with Francisco Ramírez, who has been in the country since July 3rd after fleeing the crisis in his country. Ramírez explains that his plan is not to remain in the country as a fixed solution, but to wait until the delicate situation in Nicaragua decreases and he can reunite with his family.
He explained the pain he felt when he saw Saturday’s demonstration and said that they go to Costa Rica because it’s a sister nation.
