OIJ did not identify alleged judicial agent who sold information to Patey

Walter Espinoza, director of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ), confirmed that they failed to identify an agent who allegedly tried to sell information to the president of Club Sport Herediano, David Patey.

On Monday, Patey gave a press conference denying links to any illegal activity. The American and a shareholder of the team surnamed Brannon are being investigated for alleged links with money laundering and drug trafficking.

Espinoza explained that Patey called him last November saying he had information of national interest and that he got Espinoza’s phone number from legislator Ottón Solís. The chief of the judicial police said Patey mentioned that a supposed investigator had offered him information about an investigation in exchange for money.

Espinoza said the businessman described the investigator as a man with tattoos who used a police license to refer the case. Given this, the OIJ leader sent an investigator to deal with the case and a formal complaint was processed. The case, however, was closed with no results.

However, the director of the OIJ pointed out that around the same time there was another case -from an independent source- revealing the existence of two subjects who intended to sell information from the Office of the Prosecutor but failed to do it.
