The Ombudsman’s Office described the request made by the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (RECOPE) to raise fuel prices as a whim.
Through a publication on social networks, the Ombudsman said:
The basic basket will be even less nutritious with the latest whim of RECOPE.”
In the same publication, the Ombudsman’s Office informed that it will review this increase request.
This Friday, RECOPE asked the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP) for an increase in the price of gasoline. If approved, each liter of Super would cost ¢73 more, the regular ¢67 and the diesel ¢26.
According to RECOPE, these new prices update some of the values that define the cost, such as international fuel prices, the exchange rate, the fishermen subsidy and the sectoral policy.
