In January, 2016 a 25-year-old person was the first Costa Rican with Zika virus.
Since then, two scenarios are expected in the country: finishing the year with a 1,000 cases or with 60,000 cases.
There is no doubt that we will reach and perhaps surpass the best of both scenarios but even if we do not reach the 60,000 cases, it is necessary to reinforce actions, because we have just 300 people of the staff visiting the houses in the country, so people must collaborate,
stated Rodrigo Marín, from the Ministry of Health.
Based on similar dengue cases, the doctor added that the worst weeks are coming.
Until August 20th, 839 national cases were reported, which means that they were infected in the country. In addition, there are 33 imported cases: people got infected abroad and tested positive in Costa Rica.
There was the case of a Nicaraguan woman who gave birth on August 5th. The child has microcephaly. She was infected with zika when she had 12 weeks of pregnancy, in her home country. The baby is kept under strict medical supervision.
