Only five presidents will participate in SICA meeting in Dominican Republic

The Presidents of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, and the Dominican Republic will be the only ones present at the fifty-first Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Central American Integration System (SICA), which will be held from June 28th until June 30th.

The presidents of Honduras, Belize, and Nicaragua, who will send representatives in their place, will be absent. During the meeting, the Dominican Republic will transfer the Pro Tempore Presidency of SICA to Belize.

Additionally, an Export and Investment Forum will be held after the presidential meeting.

The purpose is to promote the exportable supply, investment, and public-private dialogue, which increases the competitiveness of SICA countries,”

said Dominican Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas.

The forum will include speakers from the different governments of the region and the business sector, where the main business groups of the country will participate, such as the Santo Domingo Chamber, among others.

Vargas stated that the call to the forum has been a success, since more than 420 national, regional, and extra-regional businessmen have confirmed their participation. Within the Forum there will be a space for the Central American business group to present general offers for exports and investments within the framework of SICA, and contribute with opportunities for the region.

The Dominican Foreign Minister highlighted that SICA countries represent the sixth economy in Latin America, with almost 60 million inhabitants and exports that surpass $30 billion.
