In Escazú there are not only light posts in the middle of the street, but trees also have their rightful place.
Several photographs show at least two trees, one of which is located just around the corner of a street, which is very dangerous for drivers.
Carlos Bejarano, Communication Officer of the Municipality of Escazú, said that each case is unique, but that some originated in road expansions, so the trees that were in sidewalks end up on the road.
Anyone would think they should remove the trees before expanding the road. Otherwise they would have to repair the gap in the street. However, the official says that if done that way, the streets would not be expanded in time.
When the trees are fruit species, the municipality has the power to cut them. Otherwise they should request the intervention of the Ministry of the Environment, since it’s a matter of species conservation.
