The country is heading the right direction to develop a new international airport in the medium term, which will replace Juan Santamaría Airport. It was made clear by a group of Korean experts, who conducted the Seminar on Airport Infrastructure and Korean- Costa Rican Cooperation.
It is part of the cooperation granted by the Republic of Korea in order to address several issues related to public works.
Hernando Kim, senior manager from Incheon Airport Commerce Division, declared that Costa Rica may survive the regional competition by developing a new airport, as the one it intends to build in Orotina.
Korea and Costa Rica are two geographically-small countries and (…) we have enough experiences to share. Incheon airport was built to replace the old Seoul airport, and for 10 consecutive years we have been in the top position when it comes to efficiency and safety,
stated Kim.
In addition, Ennio Cubillo, Director General of Civil Aviation, informed that the site study, basic design and master plan of the new Metropolitan Airport of Costa Rica is satisfactorily progressing and it will be finished next year.
He added that British firm Mott MacDonald Ltd. is conducting very-advanced analysis on aeronautic, technical, operational, construction, financial, social, meteorological and environmental areas.
