The explosion in Poás Volcano on Saturday night surprised even the volcanologists, who visited the area to see the consequences around the crater.

Geoffroy Avad, an expert at the Costa Rican Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI), explained that it was the largest eruption he has recorded since the activity increased.

On Saturday night, two tectonic earthquakes were reported. The first with magnitude of 2.2 at 8:28 p.m. and the second with magnitude of 2.3 at 8:32 p.m.

The eruption at 10 p.m. caused technical problems of communication with the equipment installed near the crater.

A new eruption occurred at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, but the authorities were unable to measure the plume due to poor visibility at the site due.
