The Citizen Action Party (PAC) refused a consultation sent in April to the Constitutional Chamber for the draft gun law, therefore, they sent a report with arguments to the magistrates to counter the arguments presented in the document.
According to 11 legislators from the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC), National Integration (PIN) and National Restoration (PRN), the project that aims to reduce the number of weapons a person can register from three to two has unconstitutional frictions.
They argue that this decrease is disproportionate, the fact that, in the face of robbery, the person remains defenseless, as well as a violation of the principle of innocence because those who are in court are not allowed to register a weapon, among others.
The reform admits the possibility of a person carrying up to two weapons, but that permission can be restricted to protect people’s lives and citizen security. Therefore, requirements such as a renewal of the registration every six years are fully valid,” expressed Sánchez.
However, the ruling parties believe that legislators have the power to establish the criteria of legality for the legitimate acquisition of any property, especially those such as firearms, which can cause crimes against the lives of people.
