People in Santa Bárbara will have free internet access

The residents of Santa Bárbara de Heredia will have seven public spaces with free internet access for everyone, thanks to the program of Connected Public Spaces of the Superintendence of Telecommunications (Sutel).

This was announced by the entity together with the Municipality of Santa Barbará and the Telecable company.

Citizens will have the service 24 hours a day and will have access to a speed of 6 Mbps per user, both upload and download; this responds to the 100 Mbps enabled for each place.

“The internet is a key to knowledge, a window of opportunity to which all citizens of our country should have access, even in public places,” said Héctor Arias, mayor of Santa Barbará.

The points where the free internet service will be enabled are:

• Santa Barbara, Jesus – in front of the Church.
• Santa Barbara, San Juan – Plaza
• Santa Barbara, San Pedro – in front of the Church
• Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara – Central Park
• Santa Barbara Library
• Santa Barbara, Santo Domingo – South West Side Plaza del Roble
• Santa Barbara, Puruba – San Bosco Sports Plaza

Sergio Sánchez, Business Manager of Telecable, highlighted that this initiative is the first step towards the creation of true smart cities, because by providing Internet in public spaces, the digital development of Costa Rican communities is encouraged.
