Permits and supervision in recreational events could be evaluated by authorities

Former Football player Gabriel Badilla’s death, brought up the issue of required permits and the necessary supervision in recreational events, such as the Lindora Run Marathon.

The Ministry of Health declared that the organization did not have its endorsement to carry out the race, while the Costa Rican Federation of Athletics (FECOA) stated that there is an Executive Decree that supports the organization, without having permits from the Public entity.

Fernando Llorca, Minister of Health, admitted that the decree should be updated since it was publihed 16 years ago, and he said that since the incident took place on November 20th, as consequence, an investigation must be carried out in order to establish the corresponding responsibilities and if necessary, authorities would take the case to the public prosecutor.

The decree must be updated in order to ask for regular documents and as a guarantee of safety.
