Pipes damaged by Hurricane Otto were repaired 20 days before deadline

The reconstruction of the geothermal pipes from Miravalles III plant, damaged by Hurricane Otto last November, was completed 20 days before expected.

The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) reported that it is already available to generate power, as required by the National Center for Energy Control (CENCE).

Despite the rains in the area, we managed to exploit the spaces, maximize efforts and move forward with the goal of repairing the damaged infrastructure,”

said Didier Ugalde, coordinator of the construction.

Omar Castro, director of ICE Generation for the Chorotega Region, explained that these works will also help to recover the production capacity of the Miravalles I plant, which was also affected by the hurricane.

ICE worked on the restoration of roads, improvements of bridges and recovery of the Cuipilapa River canal in the districts of La Fortuna and Mogote (Guayabo) de Bagaces.

In addition, on December 28th a 4G radio base station began operating in Guayabo, and on January 5th another base began operating in La Fortuna de Bagaces, which substantially increases the performance of the mobile network.
