Plan aims to introduce 250 employees with disabilities in the labor market

On Wednesday, authorities presented the 2017-2018National Plan for Labor Insertion for People with Disabilities, aiming to place 250 people in the labor market over the next 12 months. To this end, alliances were created with public and private companies in order to adapt the spaces according to the needs of this population.

Lizbeth Barrantes, Executive Director of the National Council for Disabled Persons (CONAPDIS), said that another instrument was presented, which is the action plan of the National Disability Policy.

Here we must emphasize that the policy has a plan of action, so that we move from a policy that remains in a document, to an agreement and commitment with the different public institutions… This policy is aligned with the objective of the Millennium Development Goals,”

commented Barrantes.

In addition to employment, the plan includes activities for the development of entrepreneurship, for the development of capacities for people with disabilities through technology, in a way that guarantees the creation of conditions for the employability of this population.

The jobs that it intends to develop in the term of 12 months, will be for both skilled and unskilled labor, in the public and private sector.

The plan was presented jointly with the Vice-Presidency of the Republic, the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Program and the National Council of Persons with Disabilities.

People with disabilities continue to experience unemployment rates much higher than the rest of the population, reaching about 60%.
