Poás and Turrialba expelled ashes once again

Volcanoes Poás and Turrialba have emanated ash in small quantities in recent days, according to the latest report from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI).

Geoffroy Avard, an expert in charge of the Volcanic Surveillance Program reported that the colossus from Alajuela showed some weak pulses of ash emission. The gas plume is scattered mainly to the west.

Turrialba Volcano, on the other hand, showed isolated VT earthquakes and short periods of low amplitude tremor.

VT earthquakes are discrete seismic signals in volcanoes, with high frequency, which are produced by changes in the internal pressure of the volcano and the subsequent crack of the rock.
