On Sunday, both the Turrialba and Poás volcanoes remained calm. However, the plume of gases and aerosols of the colossal in Alajuela is affecting the quality of the atmospheric air in Coronado.
This influence is moderate, as reported by the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI). The institution explained that the maximum level of fine particles suspended in the air was exceeded and thus the air was affected.
Odor of sulfur was reported in sectors such as Ciudad Quesada, Palmares, Zarcero, Chachagua and Bajo de los Rodríguez.
Turrialba Volcano has also presented small explosions that raise columns of ash, gas and weak aerosols that do not exceed 300 meters above the active crater.
There have been three to four explosions of this type per hour. Winds scatter the material west-southwest.
