The equipment purchased by the Traffic Police includes sound level meters, diesel and gas analyzers, video cameras, as well as laser radars, hand helds and motorcycles. This aims to cope with their control, regulation and surveillance tasks on the road.
In the case of the sound level meters (20 units) and the diesel and gas analyzers (6 of each), they will allow better control of road pollutants emitted by vehicles, such as excessive noise and damaging gases.
37 video cameras, worth ¢ 625,000 each, were also acquired to allow greater control over the work of road traffic officers. In addition, having audiovisual material will allow to verify or dismiss accusations against officers regarding their behavior while working or as evidence against the offender.
According to commissioner Mario Calderón, director of the Traffic Police, cameras represent a very valuable investment.
The three laser radars will allow the reinforcement of road speed control works. Speed abuse is the leading cause of death on the road. In 2016, 131 drivers died for this reason.
185 hand helds were also bought: these are devices used to make tickets in a digital way, which makes it easier for each officer to download them on computers, accelerating the procedures and their registration.
In addition, 6 motorcycles were acquired, with an individual value of ¢ 8 million.
Based on the need of each region, these vehicles and the rest of the equipment will be distributed throughout the country.
