Poll shows the image of President Solís is improving

The number of Costa Ricans who believe the management of Luis Guillermo Solís and his team is “bad” or “very bad” has decreased considerably.

This is clear from a recent study done by the University of Costa Rica (UCR).

The negative opinions about Solís decreased from 62.2% in August 2016 to 40.4% in March this year.

In addition, the positive opinions increased, going from 17.5% to 28.7% in the same period.

This is the first time that the rating of government management has an upward trend, according to the Center for Research and Political Studies (CIEP) from the UCR.

The center also compared Solís ratings to his predecessor, Laura Chinchilla Miranda.

In the first half of the third year of Chinchilla’s administration, the Government had a negative perception of 64.3% and a positive perception of 14.3%. Meanwhile, Solís has 40.3% against and 28.7% in his favor.

The same study also shows that more Costa Ricans look favorably on the course of the country. The negative valuations went from 60.7% to 44.2%, while the regular ones rose by 15.4%.

For the first time in recent years we have seen a change in the trend of various elements of the political situation, such as the marked reduction of pessimism regarding the administration of the Government and a more positive assessment of President Solís,”

said Felipe Alpízar, director of CIEP.
