A pregnant mare was minutes away from drowning in Barra del Colorado. The heavy downpours caused by Hurricane Otto caused the pasture where it was grazing to flood.
The National Animal Health Service, SENASA, had to calm the animal to get it in a boat and move it to a safe place.
We were in front of with a very touching scene that shows how animals can be rescued in different ways and that forced us to be creative. The mare was isolated by floods and had no food. If we did not rescue it immediately, it was going to die,”
said Bernardo Jaen, Director General of the Senasa.
The mare met a few minutes later with her owner. Thanks to the quick action of SENASA, she could sleep without water up to the neck and in a safe place.
