The fraction of the Citizen Action Party will support the candidacy of Ottón Solís to preside over the Legislative Assembly from May 1st, but the Presidential House will not do so.
According to President Luis Guillermo Solís, during his administration they have not seek negotiations with the other parties to gain control of the congressional board.
Maybe in other administrations they bought the conflict and entered into negotiations, twisting arms … We don’t do that,”
said the President.
The Executive Branch has a year to approve the priority projects that are in queue, such as the Income and Value Added Taxes. To do this, they need to have allies in the Legislature. However, they prefer to stay out of the decision of the ruling party.
Ottón Solís has been one of the most critical legislators to the actions of the President and the Government, mainly when denouncing lack of decision in the cases of the payments to the vice-ministers, as well as in the actions by some of the ministers.
The president believes that if Ottón were elected as President of the Assembly, he will seek to work in the same way he has worked with former leaders such as Rafael Ortiz, Antonio Álvarez or José Alberto Alfaro.
