Presidency: Only the MEP is on strike

Educators are alone in the strike. Teachers and professors are the only ones who continue protesting, out of 46 entities that make up the government sector.

The Presidency stated that the education sector represents 98.55 of the strikers. In addition, only 300 people are on strike from the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), following the agreement reached by the authorities of that entity with its workers on October 6th. The main impact is concentrated in Escalante Pradilla Hospital in Pérez Zeledón.

According to the Presidency there is also a small group of workers of the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity and Aqueducts and Sewers that still supports the strike: 389 and 35 people respectively, but this doesn’t affect the service.

The strike started on September 10th in opposition to the project of fiscal reform that was finally approved by the Legislative Assembly with 35 votes in favor last Friday. Now the Constitutional Chamber has to determine if at least 38 votes were required for its endorsement.
